Dean Latimer grew up in western Canada, in a family of horse trainers. He began showing at the age of six, at Quarter horse events. As a youth competitor, he won numerous year-end championships, made three youth AQHA Champions, as well as two Youth Supreme Champions; the first Youth Supreme Champion being the second ever in Canada. After high school, he had the opportunity to come stateside to work for Bob Loomis Quarter Horses. Dean worked for the Loomis Ranch seven years, during which he won the NRHA Limited Open Futurity twice, the NRHA Derby Limited Open championship, the Congress Limited Open Futurity and the AQHA Reserve World Championship in Junior Reining.
After leaving the Loomis Ranch, he worked for Arcese Quarter horses in Italy for three years. During his stay in Italy, he won the prestigious Americana Open in 1992, as well as the German Open Futurity at Americana in 1994. He was the Italian Open Futurity champion in 1994 and reserve champion in 1993. Upon his return to the USA, in l994, he began his own business, Dean Latimer Reining Horses, at the Loomis Ranch in Marietta, Oklahoma.
