Magnums Spirit

After high school, he had the opportunity to come stateside to work for Bob Loomis Quarter Horses. Dean worked for the Loomis Ranch seven years, during which he won the NRHA Limited Open Futurity twice, the NRHA Derby Limited Open championship, the Congress Limited Open Futurity and the AQHA Reserve World Championship in Junior Reining.

Dean specializes in reining horses and showing in The National Reining Horse Association, as well as the American Quarter Horse Association. The reining horse can be of any breed to show in NRHA events; however, no matter what breed they are, they must perform highly skilled maneuvers, such as lightening spins, sliding stops and galloping transitions, that appear to have little or no guidance from the rider. All of these maneuvers are to be on a loose rein.

The Great Whiz

Although Dean has trained and shown multiple finalists at the NRHA Futurity, NRHA Derby, AQHA World Show, Quarter Horse Congress, NRBC, etc., he is equally as happy with the results his non pro horses and their owners have achieved. His non pros have won championships or reserve championships at the Congress, NRHA Limited Non Pro Derby, the AQHA World show and the NRBC, as well as having had numerous finalists at all the major events over the years. Dean enjoys working with non pros and training non pro horses, both. Many of the horses that he has trained and ridden are still showing and winning today.

Dean and his wife, Bunkey, have two children, Dani and Brian. They live on 55 acres near Marietta, OK, where they keep their mares and young stock. They also board many client mares and foals and welcome any mares, yearlings or foals for pasture board.
